The only factor you might have added is the extent to which this is a war between ethnic groups, which means if the rebels win, they can be counted on to show as much mercy to civilians who supported Gaddafi as they would have been shown had Gaddafi's troops been a day faster.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-10672274881116437152011-03-23T13:19:04.359-07:002011-03-23T13:19:04.359-07:00Good article War Tard. But then again, this is a good little war, where there won't be masses of western troops, thus turning the western reporters into crying nancies for their homegrown side. The Western reporters will stay nice an neutral, and we'll watch a wonderful little war from a distance.

Much fun.

o\ _ /oWyse Guynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-38345727473861166512011-03-22T01:47:01.225-07:002011-03-22T01:47:01.225-07:00It sure sounds like you still accept the narrative...It sure sounds like you still accept the narrative of Gaddaffi being the evil dude that supposedly ordered "peaceful protesters" bombed. Please dig a little further, Mr. Wartard. I'm sure there's more to this than the old "evil though insane dictator" bullcrap we're sold at the beginning of every war. I'm sure that by the time he called in the airstrikes, the "protests" (as they were called by the media even a few days after they began showing them toting guns and artillery) were already a full fledged insurgence. And even if it wasn't, judging by the standard procedure in the region, just a few AKs in the crowd are enough to have them all bombed to a bloody pulp.
Wouldn't you agree that there's a huge potential for misunderstanding in the timing between the media finally though belatedly starting to call the "protesters" "rebels" and the news item that "Gaddaffi wanted x (insert forone of the above) bombed"?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-16239325722833055342011-03-21T14:21:23.444-07:002011-03-21T14:21:23.444-07:00Same old, same old isn't it, the justification...Same old, same old isn't it, the justification given ("saving civilian lives from evil dictators") has a better fit elsewhere (Bahrain).

In the rare events when you meet someone ill-informed or insipidly evil enough to have backed the Iraq war you can always experience the joy of asking "So why didn't we invade North Korea which you know, actually does have WMD?”

It’s like the ultimate yardstick for western imperialism, does excuse for invasion actually better fit an entirely different (and typically oil free) country?Steve Greennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-6602808924460143082011-03-21T11:40:43.312-07:002011-03-21T11:40:43.312-07:00Great article!Great article!Shoo Thaboyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02831959868535477494noreply@blogger.com
