"

The reason they chose to bury his body is perfectly reasonable, they didn't want a grave site to become a rallying place, also where do you put it? Saudi Arabia? Afghanistan? The US?

I really don't see any glaring issues with the Bin Laden story, they knew where he was, and they finally acted on it. As for staging it, why now? Obama's approval rating continues to hover around 40%, not fantastic but by no means terrible. I would be more willing to believe it was staged had it happened in October 2012, happening now is almost politically irrelevant.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-15751321111958262432011-06-06T21:46:17.647-07:002011-06-06T21:46:17.647-07:00The way they disposed of the body so quickly at se...The way they disposed of the body so quickly at sea reeks of bullshit and evidence destruction... since when did the US ever give a shit about someone's religious beliefs, especially Terrorist Number 1?! The "war on terrorism" is a...Well said.

The "war on terrorism" is absolute proof that when the American Experiment cast itself as an Empire, the Experiment ended. It was rendered moot when Empire suddenly became a fragile thing, existentially threatened by the Bill of Rights or any thoughtful discussion at all. The simple excuse in this case was the brutal end to 3000 lives on 9-11, a toll that was easily usurped by seven months of drunk driving in New York State alone.

The new goal is to explicitly build a future tolerant of Empire. The key is to make the American economy more and more dependent on it.

The sheer success at dominating the domestic American dialog is staggering to me, who is only old enough to have read the exploits of tyrants and delusional cultural movements in thick books.

The strength of the idea that American soldiers are fighting for freedoms rather than misused by detached, corrupt, or incapable politicians, driven by corporate influence, has truly been a wonder to witness, as well as the complete suppression of the reality of the conflicts in America. Less is known now of the cultures there than ten years ago, or even when National Geographic offered travelogues with grainy staged photos of Afghanistan or Persia.

Terrorists didn't change America. Americans jumped at the chance to change it themselves. The "Terrorism" has been no more successful than a skier that triggers an avalanche.

Epilogue: There are no reliable historical examples that document how a culture or nation extracts itself from Empire on anything less than brutal terms.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-111395980737563171.post-34398657602249626062011-05-24T12:49:24.369-07:002011-05-24T12:49:24.369-07:00Great article.
